Support for young people has been deep rooted within Northampton Rugby Football Club (NRFC) since its inception. The club was founded by Reverend Samuel Wathan Wigg in 1880 in order to remedy the unruly behaviour of youngsters in his parish through a youth rugby club.
This approach went from strength to strength, resulting in a Premiership rugby club, which today continues to place the community and education at the heart of all it does.
An education centre that links in with local schools across Northamptonshire has been in place at NRFC for a number of years, utilising the medium of sport to inspire primary school children.
In 2012, we added the award winning RFU HITZ programme which supports young people aged 16-19 who would not otherwise be in education or employment to improve their functional Maths and English, develop valuable life skills and gain important qualifications alongside experience from work placements and employer led sessions.
This success, led us to create the Northampton Saints Foundation, and develop further programmes, Engage, Engage+ and Aspire to support children who had been, or were at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.
These programmes use the core values of rugby, through classroom and practical sessions, to use Our History to inspire Their Future.
